17-year-old Behchokǫ̀ teenager dies, a man in custody

In the early hours of this morning, Behchokǫ̀ RCMP responded to a call at a residence. Officers arrived at the scene to find a seriously injured 17-year-old male requiring immediate medical attention.

Efforts to save the young man’s life were made on-site, as officers administered first aid until the arrival of Emergency Medical Services. The teenager was then rushed to the local Health Centre before being transferred to Stanton Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Various units, including the RCMP’s Major Crimes Unit, Forensic Identification Services, and other specialized support teams, are now working in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner to piece together the events leading to the death of the teenager.

In the aftermath of the incident, an adult man was taken into police custody for questioning. While authorities are currently holding the man, no charges have been filed yet, pending the ongoing investigation.
