The RCMP is investigating a fire near Inuvik that left one structure destroyed on June 26.

Julie Plourde, spokesperson for the NT RCMP, says in an email police are investigating a structure fire, believed to be suspicious in nature in the area of Airport Lake.

The now-extinguished fire was just under one hectare in size, says Amber Simpson, wildfire prevention coordinator at the department of Environment and Natural Resources (ENR).

The Inuvik Fire Department was first to respond to the fire, but crews from ENR were called in to help prevent the flames from spreading, Simpson says.

No injuries were reported.
