Wifi expansion and a bagged lunch program are among several initiatives made possible by the over $150,000 raised in the Together, We Are Strong campaign.

The campaign organized by the Yellowknife Community Foundation and the United Way NWT was initiated to support those affected by COVID-19.

The wifi expansion is launching to reduce isolation and the bagged lunch program will feed those “in need,” a press release said.

Yellowknife residents donated around $75,000 to the United Way, every dollar of which was matched by the Yellowknife Community Foundation.

Some of the organizations which will receive funds include Sahtu Search and Rescue, Avens, Camp Connections, Charter Community of Tsiigehtchic, Food First, Hay River Family Support Centre, Hay River Soup Kitchen as well as several municipalities and school boards, a press release said.

The campaign ran from April 16 until May 29.
