MLA candidates welcome Federal and Territorial funds for Female candidate training

Investing in Women and Gender Equality in Territorial politics. That is what NWT MP Michael Mcleod announced alongside NWT Status of Women Minister Caroline Cochrane.

THe northern investment totals just over a millions dollars with $525,000 for the NWT with the territory kicking in another $121,000. Nunavut will receive $600,000.

After the announcement Minister Cochrane said, “It’s not that we are better, it’s that we think differently. ANd being 50 per cent of the population we need to be at the table.”

Cochrane also confirmed she will be seeing re-election on October first, but was waiting for the Legislature to reconvene before announcing formally.

She is one of two female MLAS in the NWT.

First time candidates Katrina Nokelby who is campaigning in the riding of Great Slave, and Rylund Johnson who is seeking nomination in Yellowknife North both welcomed the funding announcement.
