A Yellowknife banker wants to become the Conservative Member of Parliament for the Northwest Territories.
Yanik D’Aigle announced Thursday that he is seeking the Conservative Party of Canada (CPC) nomination to be the party’s candidate in the NWT.
According to a news release, his nomination package has been received by the party and he is now an official Conservative Party of Canada candidate nominee.
D’Aigle states he is submitting his candidacy as he believes he will make a difference to all northerners by leveraging his knowledge and experience gained over a 25 year career across Canada and the north.
He believes people across the NWT deserve a federal government that looks to partner with all residents and businesses of the NWT and all levels of government.
He says is also looking to remove the GST from home heating bills and the recently implemented carbon tax.
D’Aigle says living, working and doing business in the NWT is already expensive enough as it is.
It is believed he is the first declared Conservative candidate in the NWT.
Incumbent Liberal MP Michael McLeod is running again.
The Green Party will vote in Yellowknife Friday for one of two candidates vying to be that party’s nominee.
The NDP reportedly say they’ll have information on their nomination process soon.
