The City of Yellowknife is asking resident to review its proposed community plan.
In a news release, the city says the plan is the “road map for how land will be used and planned for the next 20 years.”
The city says it’s been collecting background data for the upcoming plan for the past year and a half.
“We want to engage with Yellowknifers every step of the way so that a collaborative, community vision can be laid out,” said Mayor Rebecca Alty in the release.
New boundary?
Earlier this year, the city came to an agreement with Yellowknives Dene First Nation about possible changing the city boundary.
The new boundary would cut through Latham Island and officially join Ndilo and Dettah.
For that to happen, it has to be approved by the Government of the Northwest Territories’ Lands department.
Section 6.8.1 of the plan addresses this possibility:
“Should amendments be made to the boundary, a review of any new land that is incorporated will be completed, including an analysis of the current designations as part of the planning considerations and decision regarding potential amendment of the Plan and associated Zoning By-law.”
The city will be hosting three open houses to discuss the plan:
- Thursday, October 10 at 4 p.m., at the Multiplex
- Wednesday, October 16 at 11:30 a.m., at City Hall
- Wednesday, October 16 at 6 p.m., at the Multiplex
