An Aklavik man had to be medevaced to Edmonton with life-threatening injuries following an assault.

About 4:40 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, Aklavik RCMP responded to call of a man lying on the ground in front of a residence.

When RCMP arrived, community members were on their way to the health centre with the 36-year-old. He was then transferred and flown down to Edmonton.

RCMP have arrested a 28-year-old man in connection with the assault and he is now being held in Yellowknife.

RCMP have not named the victim for privacy reasons, and say they haven’t named the suspect as charges are still pending.

However in a release, police said it was not a random act as the two men knew each other and there were no weapons involved.

Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Aklavik RCMP at 978-1111, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 nwtnutips.com, (click on “submit a web tip”) or text: “nwtnutips” plus your message to 274637.
