A presumptive COVID-19 case is present in the Diavik Diamond Mine outside Yellowknife.
An Albertan worker tested positive upon entering the territory, but is not exhibiting any symptoms, a government of the Northwest Territories press release says.
The individual is in isolation along with anyone who has been in contact with them.
The mine site has direct charter flights from Edmonton and requires all passengers to wear masks.
The release adds there has been false claims circulating on Facebook alleging there are three COVID-19 cases at the Stanton hospital.
“We would like to remind residents that spreading unconfirmed rumours serves only to spread anxiety and misinformation – and are dangerous to our collective wellbeing,” the release says, “GNWT will always announce new cases as soon as possible.”
Medical staff at the mine are working with public health officials to validate the test at the Alberta Provincial Laboratory.
