Hay River RCMP says two people are in critical condition after crashing a car into a power pole early Sunday morning.
Police say they received a call shortly before 5 a.m.
“The vehicle left the road and hit a power pole, and sustained extensive damage,” reads a news release. Both occupants of the vehicle were unconscious upon arrival of the RCMP.”
Police describe the occupants as “young adults” and say they were transferred to a hospital in Edmonton “for further treatment of serious, life-threatening” injuries.
Sergeant Brandon Humbke is the RCMP detachment commander in Hay River.
“It is very difficult to know that two young adults are fighting for their life right now,” he said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with their families and friends.”
Police say they are now working to reconstruct the crash to try and determine whether alcohol was a factor.
