A 35-year-old man in an apartment in downtown Yellowknife has died and police are investigating what they are calling a “suspicious death.”
According to an RCMP news release, police were called to an apartment unit on Tuesday, April 28, around 53rd Street and 50th Avenue at 2:22 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered Emergency Medical Services (EMS) on the scene trying to revive the man.
“RCMP members found the victim, deceased, in the unit. Preliminary evidence leads the RCMP to consider the death as suspicious,” Julie Plourde, an RCMP spokesperson said in the release.
Police Dog Services, the NT RCMP Major Crimes Unit and Forensic Identification Services were also on the scene looking for evidence.
Police have not named the man who died and it is unclear what type of injuries he sustained.
CKLB Radio asked the police why the case has been considered a “suspicious death,” if any weapon was used and if they have any suspects.
“As this is an ongoing investigation and to protect evidence, the RCMP is not in a position to release more information on this file. More information will come when available,” Plourde said in an email.
The RCMP says it is investigating the death with the Northwest Territories’ chief coroner’s office.
