A man in Tuktoyaktuk has been released from police custody after twice pointing a rifle at RCMP officers and firing a shot into the air yesterday morning.

On Sunday morning, local RCMP were alerted to an armed and intoxicated man outside of a home. According to an RCMP release sent out the following day, when the unidentified man pointed his rifle at officers they “immediately contained the scene,” although the release did not elaborate on what this meant.

Despite pointing his weapon at officers a second time and firing a shot into the air, the man was arrested without injury. In connection with the standoff, nine “unsafely stored” firearms were later seized from a home.

The man has since been released from custody and is facing multiple unnamed charges.
