Residents now need to book appointments to leave NWT via HWY 7

Residents and workers looking to leave the NWT via Highway 7 must now make an appointment to do so.

The appointments will only be between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays. Staff will not be at the gate outside of those hours on those days.

The territorial government says the change is “an effort to free up local resources for the COVID-19 response in Fort Liard.”

It adds the change will last “until at least” Jan. 30, 2021.

The have been at least three incidents of people either removing or driving through the gate on Highway 7 since it was put up last April.

Only vehicles carrying essential supplies or services will be allowed entry, but any vehicle can leave.

Residents will need to re-enter the NWT via Highway 1.

Anyone looking for an appointment to pass through must contact Protect NWT at 8-1-1 (1-833-378-8297 if outside the NWT) or protectnwt@gov.nt.ca.
