The Prime Minister announced a new benefit this morning to aid workers in Canada who have lost their job because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
It’s called the Canada Emergency Response Benefit, the aid will replace the two options announced last week as part of an $82-billion funding package for Canadians. This announcement will streamline the process for Canadians who need help financially.
The aid will provide out of work Canadians with $2000 per month for four months. It will also be available to sick or quarantined residents of Canada to people who are caring for children or who are staying at home caring for a sick loved one. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made the announcement Wednesday morning during his now-daily press conference on the steps of Rideau Cottage in Ottawa.
“We will be there to help you,” Trudeau said in the press conference. “Our government is doing everything we can to be there for you.”
