Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for the Fort Liard region in the southwest corner of the Northwest Territories including Nahanni Butte and Sambaa K’e, formally known as Trout Lake.
Daytime high temperatures near 30 degrees Celsius combined with overnight lows in the mid-teens are expected in Fort Liard and Nahanni Butte until midweek.
Temperatures are expected to be cooler further east near Sambaa K’e.
The public is advised to watch for the effects of heat illness including swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
Citizens are also reminded to never leave people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle.
Environment Canada states that heat warnings are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose an elevated risk of heat illnesses, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion.
