BREAKING: Yellowknife, surrounding area to be evacuated due to wildfire risk

The nearest wildfire could reach the outskirts of the community by the weekend

Yellowknife, Dettah, N’Dilo, and the Ingraham Trail have all been issued evacuation orders due to the threat of wildfire.

The evacuation was announced in a press conference on Wednesday evening. All of the more than 20,000 affected residents are asked to evacuate by road or by air by Friday at noon. Residents of Dettah and the Ingraham Trail are asked to evacuate as soon as possible.

At this time, commercial flights are still available through the Yellowknife Airport.

The fire nearest to the NWT capital could reach Yellowknife city limits by the weekend, according to NWT Fire spokesperson Mike Westwick.
