The administration building of the K’atl’odeeche First Nation (KFN) has been destroyed by fire, according to a former chief.

Roy Fabian posted a message on social media confirming the damage on Thursday.

“The sadness I feel, hearing about the KFN administration building burning down, brings tears to my eyes,” he wrote. “I know the history of the building because I helped acquire it.”

Fabian later confirmed by phone that the building had been destroyed.

Fifteen buildings have been confirmed damaged in KFN as of May 18 as wildfire continues to ravage the area. No buildings have been reported damaged in Hay River.
