Police say a community-led search party has found the body of a Fort Resolution man who fell into the Slave River last week.

The RCMP announced on Tuesday the body of 42-year-old George Giroux was found by a community search party on Oct. 8. No foul play is suspected, although an investigation is still underway.

Giroux was first reported as having fallen from a boat into the river on Monday, Oct. 4. Volunteers from the community and the Civil Air Search and Rescue led the search before the RCMP stepped in with a police dog and aerial drone.

An RCMP spokesperson previously said they were “hopeful” Giroux would be found alive.
