Some community members in Délı̨nę have lost power.

Cyre Yukon, Délı̨nę Got’ı̨nę Government’s chief operating officer, posted online saying residents without power should contact a family member or herself at 445-1815 to relocate to a warm space.

“The weather is extremely cold so please check on your family members,” she wrote.

Current temperatures are about -40 C with windchill near -50 C. The windchill is expected to subside this afternoon.

Environment Canada issued an extreme cold warning for the community earlier today.

“Watch for cold related symptoms: shortness of breath, chest pain, muscle pain and weakness, numbness and colour change in fingers and toes,” reads the warning.

Doug Prendergast, communications manager for the Northwest Territories Power Corporation, confirmed the outage.

He added that the cause is under investigation and a crew will be arriving in the community shortly after noon.

Updates will be posted to NTPC’s website and social media pages.
