According to the chief public health officer (CPHO), Dr. Kami Kandola, an additional 11 residents have probable or confirmed COVID-19 in the community – putting residents under a 14 day containment order starting Sept. 9 at 8 a.m.

This brings the total active case count in the community to 12.

All 12 cases are coming from “multiple households with no clear chain of transmission,” reads a health advisory.

The latest gathering order issued yesterday has now been changed to exclude the community.

Instead the CPHO has issued a 14 day containment order that closes all non-essential businesses and transitions residents to remote learning, with more restrictions coming to limit indoor and outdoor gatherings to only household members.

Essential services will be open with some limitations.

Non-essential travel in and out of the community is not recommended.

Anyone experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 should isolate and arrange for testing.

Closed schools

The Tlicho Community Services Agency has also announced that Elizabeth Mackenzie Elementary School and Chief Jimmy Bruneau School will be closed until further notice.

“This measure is being taken while the recent cases of COVIDin Behchoko are being investigated,” reads a public notice. “We’d ask that staff and students stay home until provided further direction.”

Students had already had their start dates delayed in late August.
