One man has been charged with homicide after a body was discovered in Yellowknife last Friday.

Moran Nitsiza of Yellowknife was arrested, the RCMP say in a press release.

Police say the incident occurred near one of the city’s shelters in a building in the area of 50 St. and 51 Ave. but say the location is not a factor in the situation.

“We are also very mindful of the impact this has on the neighbours and the community as a whole. We are thankful that these centres are available in reducing harm in our community,” the release reads.

The 38-year-old man was found unresponsive on Jan. 8 around 7:30 a.m.. At the time, police said there was no public safety concerns, but in the recent press release RCMP say Nitsiza wasn’t arrested until Jan. 10.

Police say there are no other suspects in the case.

Nitsiza will appear at the Yellowknife Courthouse on Jan. 13, 2021.

RCMP are asking anyone with information on the incident to contact them at (867) 669-1111.
