Fort Simpson RCMP are requesting assistance from a specialized RCMP B.C. team to help recover the body of a missing operator.

The operator is presumed dead after a large excavator went into standing water. The incident occurred by the Mackenzie Highway near Fort Simpson on Dec. 8.

A press release says the excavator has been recovered, but the body of the operator, who’s identity hasn’t been released, is still missing.

Efforts to pump water out have been unsuccessful as a result of extreme weather conditions.

Police in Fort Simpson are receiving assistance from the B.C. RCMP Underwater Recovery team who specialized in unique diving conditions such as extreme cold.
