Joe Dragon ‘relieved of duties’ as deputy minister of infrastructure

The territorial government has confirmed the departure of Joe Dragon as deputy minister of the department of Infrastructure.

Dragon has been out of the position for months, reportedly following heated disagreements with Katrina Nokleby, the former infrastructure minister.

In a news release, the GNWT says the departure is backdated to July 28.

CKLB asked for clarification on whether Dragon left the position or was fired.

“Dr. Dragon was relieved of his duties,” said Trista Haugland, cabinet spokesperson.

The hiring and firing of deputy ministers is in the hands of Premier Caroline Cochrane.

Steve Louttit has been acting in the role of deputy minister and will continue to do so, but the release says there are ongoing plans to find a permanent replacement.

Dragon had been in the position since November 2019, and previously served as deputy minister of the department of Environment and Natural Resources.
