Inuvik town sisters win Shop Local Campaign

"It's our home, that's what makes Inuvik special," says Jolie Wolki, one of the winners of the award.

Dynamic sister duo Jolie and Raelle Wolki prepare for a shopping spree to re-design their bedroom.

The Inuvik Shop Local Campaign awarded the girls a $1,000 gift card for their video submission.

The young girls, aged ten and eight, created a multi-voice video highlighting what it means to shop locally.

The girls won based on their community outreach and creativity.

The sisters had some assistance from their mother, Laura Hicks, in putting together the video and getting members of the community involved.

The girls recognize the added benefit of shopping locally and how that affects their community as a whole.

“Even before COVID, we’ve always recognized the need to support small businesses,” says Hicks.

“I kinda just plant these ideas in their heads and they just go with it,” she adds.

The girls say they plan on re-making their joint bedroom, picking out new paint for the walls, and re-doing the floor with the award.

Inuvik means home, friends and family, say the sisters.

The winners encourage the community to continue shopping locally even after the pandemic.

“These businesses rely on us,” say the sisters.
