A search and rescue operation near Fort McPherson ended after the discovery of a deceased 70-year-old man.

The RCMP says in a press release it is saddened to confirm the body of Paul Koe — a Fort McPherson resident — was discovered in the area of Dry River and Peel Channel.

Local community members and local search and rescue participated in the operation alongside the RCMP.

Although a post-mortem examination has not been completed, investigators say they do not suspect any criminality is involved.

The RCMP says its thoughts are with the family, friends and community members affected during this difficult time.
