A GoFundMe has been started for a family after a structure fire in Yellowknife on Sunday evening.

The fundraiser has already collected over $33,000 for the family of three after first being launched Sunday evening.

“The coming weeks and months will be challenging for them in ways many of us can’t begin to imagine, and it is my hope that even a small amount of financial assistance will help make life a little bit easier,” the GoFundMe description said.

Around 6 p.m. on Sunday, Yellowknife Fire received a call about flames coming from a structure at 50A Ave., a press release said. The house was evacuated and firefighters were on scene for around three and a half hours.

Although there were no injuries, the structure was heavily damaged, the Office of the NWT Fire Marshal said in an email.

The investigator is looking for evidence at the scene to discover the cause of the fire, but there is no indication of suspicion, the email said.
