RCMP seized alcohol from two vehicles attempting to enter Behchoko last week.

Behchoko implemented a temporary alcohol prohibition after an order was signed by community leaders, a news release said.

The first seizure took place on May 12, when RCMP intercepted a vehicle entering the community with a total of 13 bottles of 375 ml vodka and whiskey and one 750 ml bottle of vodka.

The second seizure took place on May 13 when a vehicle driving towards Behchoko was stopped and found to have 3.3 litres of liquor and 48 cans of beer.

No charges have been laid, but police continue to investigate whether the alcohol was intended for unlawful sale, the news release said.

“Behchoko RCMP will continue to support our partner agencies and community leaders on all efforts to address substance abuse and the harm it can bring. We are committed to the safety of our community” said Sgt. Ryan Plustwa, Behchoko RCMP detachment commander, in a news release.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Behchoko RCMP at (867) 392-1111.
