The internet was out across the NWT today.

Andrew Anderson is the Director of Communications at Northwestel.

“Just prior to 10 a.m. the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Northern B.C. experienced an outage to telecommunications services due to a cut to a fibre line in Northern BC,” Anderson said. “A technical issue which prevented traffic on a secondary line has been resolved and service has now resumed as normal.”

Cellular service was prioritized over a backup network and did not experience an outage, Anderson says.

“Northwestel crews are continuing repairs on the fibre cut, which are expected to be complete today,” Anderson said. “We thank our customers for your patience during this event.”
