RCMP have recovered a body off Taylor Road near William McDonald School.

In an email to CKLB, police state that a person walked into the Yellowknife RCMP Detachment at 8:45 this morning to advise that a deceased person was located in the wooded area off Taylor Road, about 200 meters into the bush.

Mounties state that it is not the body of 60-year-old Sladjana Petrovic, the Yellowknife woman who has been missing since Boxing Day of last year.

“The deceased person has never been reported missing. RCMP members attended the site and located the body. Preliminary evidence confirms that nothing suspicious happened and no foul play is suspected,” stated RCMP spokesperson Julie Plourde in an email to CKLB. “Yellowknife RCMP is assisting the Office of the Chief Coroner in an investigation into this death.”

Police have not said how they know the death is not suspicious.

CKLB will provide updates when and if RCMP or the coroner make more information available.
