Music NWT has launched a Radio Ad Writing Contest for musicians.
According to Trevor Sinclair who is the President of Music NWT, “The Government of Northwest Territories (GNWT) reached out to Music NWT asking if there was anything we could do to help support getting the message out for the need for social distancing to help protect our elders.”
“Musicians are naturally excellent at reaching out to a broader audience with great entertaining messages,” Sinclair said. “Based on this, we decided to run a Radio Ad song contest with the idea that the songs were to be kept short (30 seconds or less), with the GNWT providing prize money for the best songs.”

The best songs will be determined by a jury in conjunction with public voting.
Sinclair says a call went out on March 26th for submissions and by April 1st Music NWT has received 24 song submissions in total from Fort Resolution, Fort Smith, Hay River and Yellowknife. Radio Ads must be 30 seconds or less.
“All of the songs have been posted to the Music NWT Facebook site and to date we have had the songs collectively viewed over 17,250 times with the top videos being viewed almost 2000 times,” Sinclair said. “We are asking the public to help us decide on the winner by visiting our Facebook page and liking their favourite videos.”
To view submissions, visit https://www.facebook.com/musicnwt/
“Be sure to Like Music NWT and follow us in order to help out musicians across the NWT while staying informed about what is happening in the NWT Music scene,” Sinclair said.
The winner of the contest will be announced at a later date.
