Weekend traffic stops by RCMP at Behchokǫ̀ led to a weapons charge and multiple drug-related counts with the seizure of cocaine and crack-cocaine.
RCMP confiscated cocaine and crack-cocaine packaged for sale during both traffic stops.
On Friday, during a traffic stop, an officer “found reason” to arrest a 28-year-old female driver during a traffic stop.
RCMP stated in a news release that during a subsequent search of the vehicle, “A number of pieces of individually wrapped crack-cocaine were seized.”
Charges of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking are pending.
The accused’s name will not be known until charges are laid, or at his first court appearance.
Then on Sunday during a traffic stop, determined a male at the wheel of a vehicle was suspended from driving.
The 36-year-old male driver was arrested and searched, resulting in the seizure of 38 grams of cocaine, cash, an unsecured firearm and cigarettes without tax stamps on the packages.
The Behchokǫ̀ man and his three passengers are set to be charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime.
While names also haven’t been released, the passengers were a 31-year-old man from Behchokǫ̀; a 23-year-old female from Fort Providence; and a 17-year-old youth.
The driver also faces charges of unauthorized possession of a firearm and unsafe storage of a .
Additionally, charges related to the Excise Act are being considered in relation to the unstamped cigarettes.
All of the accused are considered not guilty until they have their day in court.
