Expanded home-care services for seniors in Dehcho, Sahtu regions

Seniors living in the Dehcho and Sahtu regions can now rest easy in the evenings with their home-care worker under a new pilot program by the GNWT.

NWT Health and Social Services Authority has added a few extra hours on evenings and even weekends, which are outside of the traditional model that aligned with the business workday.

Services in Ft. Simpson are now available from 8:30AM-8:30PM (they used to end at 5:30pm), Monday to Friday.

Services in Fort Good Hope and Deline have extended their hours to 8:30AM-8:00PM.

The Extended Hours Service Delivery Model is designed to better align with the needs of clients in our communities, stated a media release from the Authority.

New operation times in remaining regions will be rolled out throughout 2024, as part of the GNWT’s Aging in Place policy, which requires seniors to have access to services and supports to live independently and safely in one’s home or community.
