With water levels continuing to rise, the Town of Hay River has expanded its evacuation order to include Paradise Gardens.

It has also issued an evacuation alert for all riverfront properties, including the Corridor, Miron Dr., McBryan Dr., Capital Dr. (Downtown), and Riverview Dr.

The alert is precautionary and an official evacuation order will come if necessary.

The town is still asking residents to register and confirm their evacuation by going to the Hay River Community Centre, by calling 833-699-0188, or using the online registration form at www.hayriver.com/breakup.

“Provisional water levels recorded at the Hay River near Hay River gauge are higher than the peak from last year,” reads a notice from the territorial government. It added that there is 10 to 40 mm of precipitation expected over the Hay River basin.

“It is rare for a precipitation event of this magnitude to coincide with break up,” reads the notice.
