The office of the chief public health officer (OCPHO) confirmed six cases of COVID-19 in Yellowknife following the outbreak at N.J. Macpherson school.
As of May 3, face masks will be mandatory in all public places effective at 8 a.m. in the city.
The total number of active cases in Yellowknife is eight.
Ten contacts from the outbreak still await lab confirmation.
Public exposure risks
Several exposure locations have been identified between April 26 to May 1.
According to a health advisory, the OCPHO will continue to investigate the outbreak at N.J. Macpherson school.
Residents believed to be at these locations should contact public health, monitor their symptoms or isolate immediately.
The six new cases are connected and considered a cluster. However, the OCPHO is not declaring a community outbreak at this time.
For the next two weeks, all schools in Yellowknife, Ndilǫ and Dettah will be closed. In addition to all organized extracurricular activities, clubs and sports for those under 18 (including those unrelated to school).
