After a busy few days, Premier Caroline Cochrane says cabinet shuffle discussions will begin Wednesday.
The subject was discussed after Julie Green, MLA for Yellowknife Centre, was officially sworn in as a member of cabinet on Tuesday afternoon at the legislature.
Cochrane says now that the caucus retreat to Fort Smith and Green’s appointment are taken care of, she can finally meet with her cabinet ministers to discuss portfolios.
“Once that’s done, we’ll be announcing it, because the public wants to know,” she says.
Green was appointed to replace Katrina Nokleby, MLA for Great Slave, who was officially removed from her cabinet position on Aug. 24.
Green previously said she would be happy to take on any portfolio but mentioned her experience in social development with files such education, health and justice.
The newly-appointed Green says she is happy to officially be a part of cabinet and plans to celebrate with a family meal Tuesday evening, as she understands her workload is soon to grow.
“I guess my time is going to be more precious, so good to enjoy the fam jam while I can,” she says.
Green’s appointment comes after a caucus retreat in Fort Smith over the weekend.
“We certainly met a lot of people in Fort Smith,” she says, “I thought it was very productive.”
The event was an opportunity for all the MLAs to gather — however several decided not to attend, including Nokleby.
