A 17-year-old boy faces multiple charges after an altercation in Yellowknife that saw a Mountie hurt and a Taser used by RCMP.
According to a news release from police, officers were called to an altercation in progress late Friday afternoon at a residence on Byrne Road uptown.
Police say they found a youth outside the home, armed with several weapons.
They don’t identify those weapons but say none of them was a gun.
RCMP say the suspect immediately ran inside the home where other family members were staying.
Mounties state that with the volatile situation officers proceeded rapidly into the residence where a Taser was used.
“A conducted energy weapon (CEW) was deployed as the suspect became violent towards the RCMP members (officers), and to take the suspect into custody,” police stated. “During the arrest, a member received a non-life threatening injury as a result of the altercation with the youth and was later admitted to hospital for treatment. Another family member sustained a minor injury that didn’t necessitate treatment.”
Mounties don’t say whether the boy went to hospital which is generally standard procedure when someone is Tasered by police.
The youth has been charged with assaulting a peace officer, assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats and mischief.
Police have not said whether he was held in custody for a court appearance.
He can’t be named because of his age.
