Man and woman killed in single-car crash near Behchoko on Saturday

The community of Behchoko is in mourning after two members of the community were killed in a car crash on Saturday.

According to a news release from RCMP – it happened about 11:30 in the morning on Highway 3 near Behchoko.

Community members have identified the victims as 30-year-old Ryan Chocolate and 29-year-old Charlotte Rabesca.

Police say their vehicle left the road and rolled over into a nearby pond, near the corner to enter Behchoko on Highway 3.

Police say Chocolate was the driver and Rabesca was a front-seat passenger.

Two back seat passengers were able to escape safely from the vehicle.

RCMP say one them sustained a non-life threatening injury and was transported to hospital.

The Department of Transportation attended to assist with traffic control while emergency personal and investigators were on scene.

An RCMP accident reconstructionist as well as an RCMP unmanned aerial system or drone operator were deployed to aid in the collision investigation.

RCMP are also working with the NWT Coroner Service in an investigation into this incident, which is ongoing.
