New chief elected in Fort Good Hope

Daniel Masuzumi was elected on Monday, taking over from Wilfred McNeely Jr.

Here’s what Masuzumi wants to get done first.

He added that homelessness was another issue he wants to tackle, saying he wanted to offer better support for people to get out of poverty. That also means looking for more funding and update zoning to allow people to build.

Audrey Edgi is the electoral officer. She reportedly shared a photo of the results on social media that showed Masuzumi got 166 votes, nearly double the total for McNeely.

Masuzumi said he was so busy with media on Tuesday, he hadn’t yet had a chance to speak with Edgi as to when the swearing in ceremony will take place.

Nine councillors were also elected on Monday, including:

  • Stella Rabisca
  • Jacinta Grandjambe
  • George Barnaby
  • Charles McNeely
  • Rodger Boniface
  • and Dwayne Barnaby
