In photos: new Stanton Territorial Hospital grand opening

The grand opening ceremony took place at the spiritual site behind the hospital overlooking Frame Lake. More than 150 people showed up for the event.

As speakers mostly chose to pat themselves on the back in completing the $350-million Stanton Territorial Hospital “on time and on budget” as Minister Caroline Cochrane repeated on behalf of the premier, the staffing shortages and service interruptions went largely unmentioned.

Cochrane added that the new hospital is designed to meet the needs of NWT patients for the next 30 years.

For that to happen, the government and health authority will first need to solve the staffing issues that have been plaguing the facility since it first opened its doors in late May.

Nonetheless, one of the highlights was the art from artists across the NWT.
