14th annual NorthWords Writers Festival coming to Fort Smith, Hay River and Yellowknife

Attention writers and those who love to read!

The 14th annual NorthWords Writers Festival is happening from May 30 to June 2 in Fort Smith, Yellowknife and Hay River.

Indigenous writers are well-represented at this year’s festival.

Guest authors include Catherine Lafferty, Antoine Mountain, Dennis Allen and Billy-Ray Belcourt.

According to a news release, activities in Hay River and Fort Smith take place on Friday, May 31.

Events in Yellowknife start Thursday night (May 30) at Javaroma.

The annual gala is to take place at the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre (NACC) on Friday evening (May 31) starting at 7:30.

It will feature readings by eight outstanding Canadian and Northern writers, throat singing, music by the Andrea Bettger Band and an audio/visual presentation by Pat Braden.

The annual NorthWords Book Prize will also be awarded.

Events will also be held in Yellowknife at the Elks Club, and the Union of Northern Workers (UNW) building downtown.
