Two men charged in Inuvik following drug investigation

Two men from Inuvik have been charged by the RCMP following a drug investigation.

According to an Inuvik RCMP news release, “On Wednesday, April 1st, at approximately 1:54 a.m., RCMP received a call for a disturbance at a residence on Boot Lake Road.”

RCMP say when officers arrived at the residence, they located two men in possession of Canadian currency and drug paraphernalia.

A drug investigation was initiated under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) by the RCMP.

The Mounties seized Canadian currency, drug paraphernalia and an amount of crack cocaine.

“Inuvik RCMP is committed to keeping our community safe and deterring crime. We will not tolerate outside drug dealers coming into our community to pray upon our vulnerable people,” Sgt Grant Thom, Inuvik RCMP Detachment Commander said.

The two men were arrested on the scene and charged with various CDSA offences.

Adar Mahad Mohamed, 25, from Saskatoon, SK, has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking Schedule
  • Possession (Schedule III substance, example-Amphetamines and hallucinogens)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.
  • Three counts of Fail to comply.

Aaron Kay, 38, from Inuvik, NT, has been charged with:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking,
  • Possession. (Schedule III substance, example-Amphetamines and hallucinogens)
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000.

Both suspects have since been released from custody.

Mohamed remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in Yellowknife on April 5th. Kay is scheduled to appear in court in Inuvik on August 31st.
