A suspected drug-impaired motorist sped through two school zones in downtown Yellowknife on Monday before being stopped by RCMP, the force stated in a release.
Two days later, police received a report of another motorist appeared to be falling asleep behind the wheel. Again, the driver was stopped by officers.
Both were suspected of being impaired, given standardized field sobriety tests when stopped, they failed and were arrested.
In both cases, a drug recognition expert performed an evaluation on the drivers, who were later released.
Both cases remain under investigation and no charges have been laid, pending the results of forensic laboratory analysis.
Police remind the public that many drug-impaired drivers (especially cannabis-impaired) believe they are sober and capable of driving. But drugs negatively impact their motor skills and reactions times.
