Five youth have been arrested and one charged in Fort Simpson in connection with a string of break-ins and thefts spanning two weeks, according to the RCMP.
Police in the community were able to link three break and enters, three thefts from property, and one “mischief to a vehicle” to the five suspects. The alleged crimes date from Aug. 26 to Sept. 9.
After a speaking with the victims, four of the youth agreed to participate in a “youth diversion program” rather than face charges. The intent of the program, according to the RCMP, is to “ensure that youth involved in criminality are held to account, given the opportunity to understand the impact of their actions and to learn from mistakes.”
The fifth accused declined to take part in the program and is being charged.
