NWT residents now have an opportunity to voice their thoughts on how much money MLAs are paid.
The Independent Commission to Review Members Compensation and Benefits, led by former Premier Joe Handley, is asking for feedback on MLA salaries and benefits.
The base salary for a Member of the Legislative Assembly is $109,991. There are bonuses for being premier ($83,656), minister ($57,771), speaker ($47,875), and a range for committee chairs.
Here is a full breakdown of MLA pay and benefits, including expense accounts, housing allowances, and insurance plan among others.
Residents wishing to share their thoughts can contact the commission at info@nwtmlapay.ca, or visit the website.
Residents can also request an in-person meeting in their language by emailing the address above, or calling Corinne Kruse at 867-767-9133 ext. 12005, by April 15.
