Confirmed case of COVID-19 at worksite near Gahcho Kué

Health officials say there is no risk of transmission to NWT communities.

The office of the chief public health officer has confirmed one case of COVID-19 at a winter road work camp near Gahcho Kué mine.

This is the fifth case of virus related to the mine.

The individual is an employee of on the contracted companies hired by the mine to work on its winter road.

The individual and their contacts are currently isolating and doing well, according to a public health advisory.

Health officials say they believe the person became infected prior to coming into the territory.

“The investigation finds that no one has left or arrived on-site during any possible infectious period,” reads the advisory.

Health officials are now working to get everyone on site tested.
