The RCMP across the Northwest Territories is warning residents about fraud schemes related to COVID-19.
According to police, the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre has created a list of scams people should watch for, including selling COVID-19 tests and other fake products to treat the virus.
There are other cases of fraudsters posing as government officials giving you fake positive test results and trick people into confirming their health card and credit cards numbers, and other personal information.
Fake power company workers threatening disconnection, fake charity representatives, fake financial advisors, residents have a slew of possible schemes to be wary of.
“Beware of unsolicited calls, emails and texts requesting urgent action or payment and/or offering medical advice, financial relief, or government assistance and compensation,” reads an RCMP news release.
Residents should not open suspicious links or disclose personal and financial information.
