Lead and copper found in École Sir John Franklin High School
As a precaution, Sir John had already switched to using external water sources earlier this year, and had already taken their water fixtures out of service.
Another Public Health Order has been issued for an NWT school by the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer for a school that has found lead in its water.
The affected school this time is École Sir John Franklin High School. The GNWT has collected the results for their testing, and has found several water fixtures to be contaminated with not only high lead levels, but copper as well.
However, as a precaution, Sir John had already switched to using external water sources earlier this year, and had already taken their water fixtures out of service.
The school is currently following all measures under the Public Health Order. he school, Yellowknife Education District No. 1 and the Department of Education, Culture and Employment are taking steps to address the issue. Fountains and other fixtures will remain out of service until testing results show the water as being safe to consume.
