A man from the Kátł’odeeche First Nation was arrested last week after an incident with a firearm.

Hay River RCMP were called around 2:20pm on March 27th, where they were told of an intoxicated man who had pointed a firearm at another person inside a Kátł’odeeche residence. The victim was able to escape without injury.

When officers arrived at the home, two individuals stepped outside and were quickly arrested without incident. One of the people arrested was released on the scene.

Police obtained a search warrant for the home, where they were able to find three long guns, though none of the people who lived at the home were licensed to possess firearms.

35-year-old Nathan Fabian of the Kátł’odeeche First Nation has been charged with:

  • Pointing a firearm,
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose,
  • Using a firearm in the commission of an offence,
  • Careless use of a firearm,
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm,
  • Possession of a firearm while knowing possession is unauthorized,
  • Assault with a weapon, and
  • Uttering threats

Fabian appeared in court for a bail hearing and has been returned to police custody.
