Four people have been nominated for four councillor’s positions in Enterprise’s municipal by-election next month.

The nominees are:

  1. Clarke, Genevieve
  2. Dives, James
  3. Richards, Dave
  4. St. Amour, Michael

St. Amour is the former mayor who lost to former councillor Sandra McMaster in February by four votes, 29 to 25.

Then, refusing to work with the mayor-elect, four people resigned from council or refuse to take up their new positions.

Any voter who believes that a candidate is not eligible to be a candidate, has 72 hours after close of nominations to advise returning officer Blair Porter. The hamlet’s SAO, at: sao@enterprise-nt.ca.

Fifty-four of 64 eligible voters in Enterprise cast ballots in February to elect a new hamlet council — a voter turnout of 84 per cent.

Pressing issues for the new council include working with the GNWT on disaster relief after last summer’s wildfires razed most of the hamlet.

Many residents haven’t been able to return home, as there are few structures left standing.

The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs has contracted Colliers Project Leaders to clean up the charred debris and contaminated soil, expected to be completed by summer.
