Two Hay River men charged with drug and gun crimes

An illegal rifle, ammunition and 27 grams of suspected cocaine were seized by Hay River RCMP on Wednesday.

Police were conducting patrols of the community, when a person was observed secreting a firearm into a vehicle and hiding it, stated a release.

Media Relations Officer Constable Josh Seaward stated: “Police initiated a traffic stop. Investigation revealed that none of the occupants of the vehicle had a Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL), and they were taken into custody.”

Police then located and seized approximately 27 grams of suspected cocaine, paraphernalia consistent with trafficking, bear spray, a quantity of illegal cannabis and the long gun, along with over 100 rounds of ammunition.

Tyrone Stephens, 21, of Hay River is charged with: Unauthorized possession of a firearm; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle; and possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.

Skylar Constant, 27, of Hay River is charged with: Unauthorized possession of a firearm; possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose; violating a weapons prohibition; and possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine.

Both have been remanded, with their next court appearance on April.
