Hay River youth in hospital following ‘serious assault’

Three male culprits have been arrested and charged with aggravated assault, several other offences

A young male is in hospital following a ‘serious assault’ in Hay River.

Police say they received a call of a disturbance around 4:15 a.m. on March 12. While en route to the location, they found a young man who had been assaulted. EMS transported the young man to the Hay River Hospital, but due to the significant nature of his injuries, he later had to be taken to Stanton Territorial Hospital in Yellowknife.

Three male culprits have since been arrested and charged with a variety of offences, the gravest being aggravated assault. Other offences include assault with a weapon, dangerous driving and mischief.

The youth remains in custody at the Hay River detachment.
